Vision tests
When you attend for your appointment, you will first have a series of tests for your vision with an eye professional called an orthopist. You will then have your consultation with Dr. Reid.
Two of the vision tests you can expect are shown below. They are used for diagnosing your vision problem, as well as for monitoring its response to treatment. You may also need brain imaging and/or blood tests.
Optical coherence tomography
This device scans the back of your eye, using light waves in the same way that radar uses sound waves. It generates very precise images of optic nerve structure.
Visual fields automated perimetry
This is a test for your peripheral vision, which is one aspect of optic nerve function.
Neuro-imaging
Depending on what vision problem you have, you may need an MRI or CT scan of your optic nerves and brain to diagnosis it properly. If necessary, you will be given a referral to an Imaging service for this kind of testing.
Blood tests
Depending on what vision problem you have you may need blood tests to diagnose it properly. If necessary you will be given a referral to a Pathology service for this kind of testing
